The idea for the Cyprus Institute of Mediterranean, European, and International Studies (KIMEDE) was conceived in 1996 by Professor Costas Melakopides (University of Cyprus), Professor Andreas Antoniou (Philips College, Nicosia), and Mr Costas Sasmatzoglou (ABD, Dept. of Turkish Studies, University of Cyprus). Having all three come recently from Canada, they were convinced of the need to create in Cyprus a really independent, non-profit, and high caliber think tank, utilizing primarily the academic potential of the University of Cyprus. They also mobilized a number of diplomats, journalists, experts on the Cyprus problem, on Greek and Turkish foreign policy, European, Mediterranean and other issues, who would serve in the Institute´s Board and be associated with its creative activities. |

Dear Visitor,
Welcome to the Cyprus Institute of Mediterranean, European and International Studies
(KIMEDE). KIMEDE is a pioneering think-tank in the Republic of Cyprus. It is rapidly developing into an
important voice for European principles and values in the Eastern
Mediterranean. KIMEDE, as a member of the Brussels-based
Trans-European Policy Studies Association (TEPSA), is in close collaboration
with numerous leading institutes in Europe.
Thus, inter alia, KIMEDE has participated in the life of FORNET, a network of

is presently associated with EU-CONSENT, a Network of Excellence for joint
research and teaching on the European Union. In addition, we are pursuing the
whole range of activities suggested by our name, including research, seminars,
publications, etc. We do hope you will be visiting our
Website, which will be updated regularly, and we do welcome your feedback. Cordially, Professor Dr. Costas Melakopides President
